ADULT ADHD SELF-REPORT SCALE: COMPREHENSIVE PSYCHOMETRIC STUDY IN A SPANISH SUD SAMPLE

Datos primarios asociados al artículo publicado en Journal of Attention Disorders.https://doi.org/10.1177/1087054716664410, Objective: The purpose of this study is to provide reliability and validity evidence of the Adult Self-Report Scale (ASRS) scores on different versions and scoring procedures in a Spanish substance use disorder (SUD) sample. Method: The sample was made up of 170 outpatients diagnosed with SUD. The ASRS, the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI), and the Substance Dependence Severity Scale were administered. Results: The results of the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) showed adequate fit to the structure proposed by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th ed.; DSM-IV) in the 18-item version. On the screening scale, best fit was found for a model with two correlated factors (inattention and hyperactivity). The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) showed that the ADHD items converge and are differentiated from symptoms of withdrawal. The regression analyses showed that severity of dependence is explained by the ASRS scores. Conclusion: Both versions of the ASRS showed adequate psychometric properties. The polytomous or dichotomous score is relevant in patient classification.

SPANISH ADAPTATION OF THE PROTECTIVE BEHAVIORAL STRATEGIES SCALE-20 (S-PBSS-20) AND EVALUATION OF ITS PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

The Protective Behavioral Strategies Scale (PBSS) is one of the most widely used and well-validated instruments for evaluating these strategies. However, a Spanish adaptation of this or any other measure of PBS is not available. We aimed to provide a Spanish version of PBSS-20 and examine its psychometric properties. Method: We recruited 538 undergraduate students from three Spanish universities (mean age = 21.2; females = 78%). Measures included the Spanish-PBSS-20 (S-PBSS-20), Young Adult Alcohol Consequences Questionnaire (YAACQ), Daily Drinking Questionnaire, and frequency of alcohol use, drunkenness, and binge drinking. Results: Our results support the use of the original 3-factor structure of the PBSS-20. Internal consistency reliability ranged between 0.71-0.77, and evidence of validity was provided according to the expected relationships with other variables. Exploratory factor analyses provided evidence of convergent/discriminant validity of S-PBSS-20. Conclusions: The results suggest that PBSS-20 is a useful instrument for assessing protective behavioral strategies in alcohol users. The S-PBSS-20 could be useful for research on alcoholrelated protective behavioral strategies and consequences, and could also inform the design of educational interventions for promoting the use of protective strategies and reducing alcohol-related negative consequences.

This study analyses psychosocial adjustment and sociometric status in primary education pupils, and possible differences by gender. A cross-sectional survey was undertaken in Huelva (Spain). The surveyed schools were selected using a stratified random sampling technique with both public and private elementary schools. Sample was composed of 247 4th grade students. Data revealed gender differences in psychosocial adjustment, particularly in terms of prosocial behavior in girls and behavioral problems in boys. Popular and rejected statuses presented opposing adjustment profiles, particularly in hyperactive symptoms and behavioral problems. When the sample was separated by gender, the differences between the types of status in emotional symptomatology and prosocial behavior disappeared. In addition, the differences between statuses were greater in boys, and were defined mainly by hyperactivity, whilst for girls these differences were more apparent in behavioral problems.

COCAINE USE DISORDER CRITERIA IN A CLINICAL SAMPLE: AN ANALYSIS USING ITEM RESPONSE THEORY, FACTOR ANALYSIS, AND NETWORK ANALYSIS

Dimensionality and inclusion/exclusion of several criteria was studied using various analytic approaches. Objective: The study aimed to deepen our knowledge of the interrelationships between the diagnostic criteria for cocaine use disorder (CUD), applying three different analytical techniques: factor analysis, Item Response Theory (IRT) models, and network analysis. Methods: 425 (85.4% male) outpatients were evaluated for CUD using the Substance Dependence Severity Scale. Confirmatory Factor Analysis, 2-parameter logistic model (IRT) and network analysis were applied to analyze the relationships between the diagnostic criteria. Results: The results show that “legal problems” criterion is not congruent with the CUD measure on three analyses. Also, network analysis suggests the usefulness of the “craving” criterion. The criterion “quit/control” is the one that presents the best centrality indices and expected influence, showing strong relationships with the criteria of “craving,” “tolerance,” “neglect roles” and “activities given up.” Conclusions: Network analysis appears to be a useful and complementary technique to factor analysis and IRT for understanding CUD. The “quit/control” criterion emerges as a central criterion to understand CUD.

In this study, we compare the attitudesand stereotypes towards obesity of PE teachers with those of their colleagues who teachmathematics. In addition, we evaluated the association between the teachers’ anti-fat biases andthe level of physical activity (PA) of their students. The sample consisted of 81 PE teachers and 75mathematics teachers. The adolescent sample consisted of 1792 secondary school students. Theassessment of attitudes and stereotypes was conducted with the Implicit Association Test and theAnti-Fat Attitudes questionnaire. The PA level of the adolescents was determined by a self-administered instrument. PE and mathematics teachers showed similar biases, except for theautomatic obesity–laziness association, which was stronger for PE teachers than for mathematicsteachers. These distinctive implicit stereotypes of PE teachers were also significant predictors ofthe lack of PA in adolescents. We recommend the use of interventions aimed at reducing non-traditional forms of prejudice in teachers

Estas fotografías fueron tomadas en una zona llana de la costa cercana a Keiss, en el condado de Caithness, Escocia, con marea baja, donde la “vieja arenisca roja” forma un lecho duro que se sumerge superficialmente en el mar perfectamente transparente. A unos 10 metros en el oleaje, las rocas se quiebran en el agua profunda, abriéndose a una parte menos accesible del mundo acuático. Las criaturas que encontré allí no eran espectaculares, ni raras ni fascinantes. No había colores llamativos, ni misterios sublimes—simplemente organismos en su propio mundo, solitarios y perfectamente imperturbados, algunos esperando ser tragados por la próxima marea, otros moviéndose a un ritmo increíblemente lento., The pictures were taken on a flat part of the coast near Keiss, County Caithness, Scotland, at low tide, where “Old Red” Sandstone forms a hard bed dipping shallowly into the perfectly transparent sea. About 10 metres into the surf, the rocks break off into deep water, opening to a less accessible part of the water-bound world. The creatures I found there were neither spectacular, nor rare or exciting. There were no loud colours, no sublime mysteries—just organisms in their own world, solitary and perfectly undisturbed, some waiting to be engulfed in the next high tide, others moving around at incredibly slow rates.
