MICOLOR-1 CRUISE, RV GARCÍA DEL CID

  • Gasol, Josep M.
  • CSIC - Unidad de Tecnología Marina (UTM)
Oceanographic data acquired during the MICOLOR-1 Cruise (29GD20230428) on board the Research Vessel García del Cid in 2023., The MICOLOR-1 campaign has been designed to capture the maximum diversity of stations based on their productivity. It is about measuring sedimentation flows to the bottom of the ocean and at the same time measuring the structure of the communities of microorganisms in the particles on the surface, in the deep maximum of chlorophyll, at approx. 200 m and in the mesopelagic. The surface and those depths will be characterized by measuring nutrients, chlorophyll, flow cytometry, and the activity of algae and bacteria. The community will be studied by DNA sequencing on the particles.

ARCO CRUISE, RV GARCÍA DEL CID

  • Puig, Pere
  • CSIC - Unidad de Tecnología Marina (UTM)
Oceanographic data acquired during the ARCO Cruise (29GD20230626) on board the Research Vessel García del Cid in 2023., Assessment of fishing grounds Restoration after a Change of bottom trawling Otter boards (ARCO). The main objective of the ARCO project is to study the current sedimentary processes related with trawling activity in the Palamós submarine canyon after the change of trawl doors by the Palamós harbor fleet. The impacts of this type of fishing in deep-sea environments are considered very high due to their intensity and recurrence, and to the fact that sediment dynamics are less energetic and the benthonic ecosystems are more vulnerable and have less resilience than in neritic or shelf environments

CONPART CRUISE, RV GARCÍA DEL CID

  • Puigcorbé , Viena
  • CSIC - Unidad de Tecnología Marina (UTM)
Oceanographic data acquired during the CONPART Cruise (29GD20230627) on board the Research Vessel García del Cid in 2023., Connectivity of particle-attached prokaryotes across continental margins and their potential use as particle source and organic carbon degradation proxies (CONPART).This campaign is part of the study of the connectivity of microbial communities associated with suspended particles on continental margins along a vertical gradient in the water column and horizontally along a submarine canyon to evaluate their potential use. as tracers of the origin and level of degradation of organic particles. The objective of the CONPART project is to improve our understanding of the interactions between the dynamics of particles and the microbial diversity associated with them and also to know their functionality to see if they are functionally diverse, and can adapt to the environmental changes that occur during the particulate matter transport.

TRANSMOW CRUISE, RV HESPÉRIDES

  • Pena, Leopoldo
  • CSIC - Unidad de Tecnología Marina (UTM)
Oceanographic data acquired during the TRANSMOW Cruise (29HE20210428) on board the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2021., The objective of the TRANSMOW cruise twofold: in the first place, to sample the waters on their previous and outgoing route from the Mediterranean MOW (Mediterranean outflows water) along the western Mediterranean, the Gulf of Cádiz and the Iberian-Atlantic and Cantabrian margins, and secondly, to sample marine surface sediments and long cores following depth transects at key points of the described trajectory. The motivation for this sampling arises from the new possibilities opened up with the recent development of the LIRA-Panthalassa laboratories, unique leading analytical infrastructures in Spain that allow to be carried out a new type of chemical and geological oceanography , until now inaccessible to the Spanish community. Specifically, it is intended to characterize in detail the signal of isotopes of Nd (εNd) and rare earths (REE) of the leaving waters of the Mediterranean, among other physical-chemical parameters. Sediment sampling is intended to validate the transmission of this signal in the geological record and thus apply this knowledge in the analysis of the oceanographic evolution of the MOW at different time scales in relation to past climate transitions.

ANTOM-2 CRUISE, RV HESPÉRIDES

  • Dachs, Jordi
  • CSIC - Unidad de Tecnología Marina (UTM)
ANTOM-2 Cruise (29HE202201188) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2022., The sampling cruise ANTOM-2 is the second of the two campaigns of the ANTOM project, which aims to understand the long-range transport and biogeochemistry of organic pollutants at global scale and how these reach the Antarctic Ocean, as well the pollutant interactions with marine microbiomes. During the campaign, samples of air, seawater, microbiomes, zooplankton and plastics are taken. In addition, a number of experiments are performed with the objective to assess the microbial degradation of pollutants, and the effects of organic pollutants and anthropogenic organic matter on marine microbiomes.
