The objective of the TRYNITROP project is to characterize the distribution and activity of Trichodesmium and other N2 fixatives, to determine the factors responsible for the control of N2 fixation as well as the contribution of these organisms to the fluxes of C and N mediated by the microbial plankton in the Phototic layer of the Tropical Atlantic. MVSEIS Cruise (29HE20080516) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2008, MVSEIS: Tectonic control, deep structure and the mud volcanoes of the Gulf of Cádiz characteristics. The main scientific objectives of the MVSEIS campaign can be summarized as follows: 1) Study the morphology and the internal geophysical configuration (seismic, magnetic and gravimetric) of the mud volcanoes and carbonate diapiric dorsal continental margins of the Gulf of Cádiz. 2) Identify, sample and photograph possible active structures of emissions of Fluids in the bottoms of diapiric ridges and mud volcanoes. 3) Sample gas hydrates associated with mud volcanoes and study the geothermal and oceanographic conditions for its formation. 4) Identify and sample biomineralizations (nodules, crusts, chimneys, etc.) by the action of micro / macro chemosynthetic organisms by anaerobic oxidation of methane and / or dissociation of hydrated gases (clathrates). 5) Recognize the role of global (paleo) oceanographic / climatic changes and tectonics in the formation and evolution of mud volcanoes, diapiric ridges carbonated, deep chemosynthetic reefs and associated biomineralisations

NEAREST-SEIS Cruise (29HE20081027) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2008, NEAR shore sourcES of Tsunamis: towards an early warning system (NEAREST). Seismic characterization and paleoseismicity tsunamigenic structures in the Gulf of Cádiz (SW Iberian Margin). During the NEAREST-SEIS cruise on the B/O Hesperides (Nov. 2008), two wide-angle seismic lines were acquired in the Gulf of Cadiz area using a source composed of seven 1500liter Bolt airguns (4520 in3), shot at 90 s intervals. 19 ocean bottom seismometers (OBS) from Ifremer and the University of Brest and 17 OBS from UTM-CSIC, Barcelona were deployed during the survey

SAGAS Cruise (29HE20081122) carried out on the Research Vessel Hespérides in 2008, This project intends to study, through a multidisciplinary geological and geophysical approach, the current structure and recent evolution of the Gibraltar arch system (sag), which includes the basins and margins of the Alboran and Algerian-Balearic sea and its surroundings, the orogen bético-rifeño and the accretion prism of the Gulf of Cádiz. The objective is to gain a better understanding of the dynamics of the internal processes that affect the lithosphere and the earth's crust, the dynamics of external processes responsible for morphology, sedimentation and geoenvironment, and the interrelation between deep and superficial processes. The specific objectives refer to processes and mechanisms that occur at different scales, and therefore require complementary approaches, activities and methods. The project would increase the geological and geophysical infrastructure in the Spanish Mediterranean and is of interest for allowing actions aimed at preventing and designing contingency plans for geological and environmental risks in a region in which considerable earthquakes and underwater landslides occur
