The main scientific objectives of the MVSEIS campaign can be summarized as follows: 1) Study the morphology and the internal geophysical configuration (seismic, magnetic and gravimetric) of the mud volcanoes and carbonate diapiric dorsal continental margins of the Gulf of Cádiz. 2) Identify, sample and photograph possible active structures of emissions of Fluids in the bottoms of diapiric ridges and mud volcanoes. 3) Sample gas hydrates associated with mud volcanoes and study the geothermal and oceanographic conditions for its formation. 4) Identify and sample biomineralizations (nodules, crusts, chimneys, etc.) by the action of micro / macro chemosynthetic organisms by anaerobic oxidation of methane and / or dissociation of hydrated gases (clathrates). 5) Recognize the role of global (paleo) oceanographic / climatic changes and tectonics in the formation and evolution of mud volcanoes, diapiric ridges carbonated, deep chemosynthetic reefs and associated biomineralisations
