Here, we present a wood charcoal reference collection for anthracological analyses in the Highlands of Ethiopia. Available plant species and genus were selected according to their importance in the different vegetation types present in the northern Highlands of Ethiopia following the information published by Friis et al. (2010) and their availability in the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle collections at Paris. It contains pictures of the cross, radial and tangential sections, as well as anatomical descriptions following the terminology proposed by the International Association of Wood Anatomists.

The present documents are the suplementary materials of the paper published and named "Human-Woodland interactions during the pre-Aksumite and Aksumite periods in NE Tigray, Ethiopia: insights from the wood charcoal analyses of Mezber and Ona Adi" https://doi.org/10.1007/s00334-021-00825-2. They include: 1) List of plant taxa found during analyses, including anatomical descriptions and discussions. 2) Explanation of used indexes. 3) Raw data of taphonomical alterations found throughout the analyses. 4) Results of representativty curves, including quantitative, qualitative and Gini-Lorenz curves. 5) Raw data of taxonomical results registered during analyses.

The present documents are the primary data used on the paper in preparation "Farming the World's drylands: ethnographic-based models highlight the key role of traditional knowledge for sustainable food production": 1) SI Dataset S1(SI1-eHRAF-dataset.csv): Full cross-cultural dataset, according to the data provided by eHRAF and added external sources, on traditional cultivation practices of finger millet, pearl millet and sorghum worldwide. Data has been normalised according to the Standard Cross-Cultural Sample Codebook (3). 2) SI Dataset S2 (SI2-interviews.csv): Data resulting form the ethnographic interviews, processed and normalized according to the Standard Cross-Cultural Sample Codebook (3).
