Durant la primavera del 96, la segona expedició de la Universitat de Girona al Sàhara occidental passa per Tindouf i arriba a Rabuni, el centre de protocol i rebuda de la República Àrab Saharaui Democràtica. Els components d'aquesta expedició tenen la intenció de recòrrer el territori que actualment controla el Front Polisario i inventariar-ne les possibles àrees de valor arqueològic.
