MODEL SOCIAL SYSTEM DESIGN, ODD PROTOCOL, DATA SET AND SIMULATION CODE

  • Romay Coca, Juán
Social exclusion is one of the greatest challenges facing today's societies and especially the group under study. This type of exclusion goes beyond poverty, to the extent that it can be considered as a kind of social and individual catastrophe, since this phenomenon of social exclusion causes damage of great impact on the people affected and on their environment. After all, social exclusion is a set of factors that prevent well-being, the full enjoyment of life and increases unhappiness. In this work, agent-based simulation will be used. These tools allow us to study social systems where inequality emerges from local interactions, avoiding homogeneity assumptions typical of statistical models. Our research uses these models to study the processes of social exclusion in people with deafblindness and to search for elements that help us to understand some element of this social phenomenon. In our research, we find the relevance of institutionalisation in the phenomenon of exclusion of this group, the importance of critical thresholds in this exclusion process, biopolitics as an operative social mechanism that fosters structural vulnerability and intersectionality. These elements establish a plausible explanatory framework that allows a better understanding of the phenomenon of social exclusion in people with deafblindness.

BILINGUAL ACQUISITION DATA: DATIVE ALTERNATION_DA-L2 ADULT DATASET

  • Fernández Fuertes, Raquel
  • Sánchez Calderón, Silvia
This dataset is the result of the research carried out by Silvia Sánchez Calderón (UNED) and Raquel Fernández Fuertes (UVa) in the frame of the Research Group UVALAL (University of Valladolid Language Acquisition Lab, https://uvalal.uva.es/) whose Principal Investigator is Raquel Fernández Fuertes. In this project, the research is conducted on the second language (L2) acquisition of English Dative Alternation (DA) constructions by adult learners whose first language (L1) is Spanish. The results are compared to a control group of L1 English adults. An Acceptability Judgment Task (AJT) was designed for both groups to address grammaticality, sentence structure and word order of the two English DA structures. The two DA structures under analysis involve, on the one hand, prepositional to-datives that alternate as Double Object Constructions (DOCs) (1) and, on the other hand, prepositional for-datives that alternate as DOCs (2). The main aim of this project is to explore the role played by the L2 English learners' L1 in their sensitivity towards the two syntactic variants, with a particular emphasis on the potential crosslinguistic influence effects (or lack thereof) from Spanish into English and the Universal Grammar (UG) effect on their acquisition., UVALAL, 1. ATOMISTIC MODELING OF HIGH ENERGY IRRADIATION IN SEMICONDUCTORS

  • López Martín, Pedro

This project aims to develop atomistic models based on physical mechanisms that are predictive and computationally efficient for simulating high-energy irradiation processes in semiconductors. In particular, irradiation with very high-energy neutrons and protons (MeV-GeV) is an inevitable process in devices operating in highly radioactive environments (radiation sensors, nuclear facilities, medical radiological equipment, etc.), causing a loss of performance and a reduction in their lifespan. We have established a multi-scale atomistic simulation methodology combining the Geant4 – BCA – kMC techniques, which allows us to obtain the spectrum of recoils produced by a given irradiation (particle type and energy), simulate their interaction with the semiconductor, and their effect on the activation of dopants. This Dataset includes the spectrum of PKAs resulting from neutron and proton irradiation in Si obtained with Geant4, the analysis of defects produced by low energy Si recoils as simulated by MD and BCA techniques, and the simulation with the kMC code DADOS of dopant deactivation (acceptor removal process) in p-type Si sensors induced by neutron an proton irradiation., Multiscale Materials Modeling Group, GIR de Electrónica, Departamento de Electricidad y Electrónica, INDEX 1.
