This repository includes:
- A comma-separated values file (eamo-bbmo_env-diversity.csv) containing the contextual and environmental data from the EAMO–BBMO time-series. This file contains information such as date, geographic position, season, and a selection of biological, physico-chemical and climatic parameters, as well as the computed alpha-diversity metrics.
- A README file (eamo-bbmo_README.csv) explaining the meaning and units of each column name in the environmental dataset, This repository contains contextual and environmental data associated with samples from two coastal microbial time-series observatories located at contrasting latitudes: the Equatorial Atlantic Microbial Observatory (EAMO, 6°S) and the Blanes Bay Microbial Observatory (BBMO, 41°N, Mediterranean Sea). Sampling took place monthly from April 2013 to August 2016, with surface seawater measurements collected alongside eDNA metabarcoding samples, The EAMO data were generated with funds from FAPESP (process #2014/13139-3), CNPq (process 474759/2013-0), and the Brazilian Science Without Borders Program (BJT 013/2012; PVE 400313-2014-6). The BBMO data were obtained thanks to project DEVOTES (FP7-ENV-2012-308392), MINIME (PID2019-105775RB-I00), and MAORI (PID2022-136281NB-I00) as well as many others that have maintained the observatory, This work contributes to the Institut de Ciències del Mar "Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence" accreditation CEX2024-001494-S funded by AEI 10.13039/501100011033 of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, Peer reviewed

GLOBAL WARMING DRIVES PHENOLOGICAL SHIFTS AND HINDERS REPRODUCTIVE SUCCESS IN A TEMPERATE OCTOCORAL [DATASET]
- Viladrich, Nuria
Global warming is profoundly reshaping biodiversity. Until now, most research has focused on the impacts of extreme temperature events. However, in many ecosystems, it is becoming increasingly apparent that climate change is accelerating the onset of spring warming conditions. These advanced warming conditions can significantly disrupt critical biological processes such as reproduction, which is key for population persistence. While interest in phenological shifts has increased in recent years, their effects on marine foundation species, such as corals, remain poorly understood. Here, we combined observational and experimental approaches to assess the effects of advanced spring warming conditions driven by climate change on the reproduction of the Mediterranean octocoral Paramuricea clavata, a foundation species. Our findings reveal that a 2°C warming leads to a two-week advancement in P. clavata spawning, as evidenced by both field observations, and ex-situ experiments. These results underscore the role of advanced spring warming as a significant driver of phenological shifts in coastal marine ecosystems. Furthermore, we show that this phenological shift lead to a reduction in the number of spawning events, as well as decreases in larval biomass, survival rates, and settlement success. These findings highlight the urgent necessity to monitor phenological changes in foundational marine species, as such shifts can undermine the long-term viability of coral populations and contribute to substantial decline in associated biodiversity. Consequently, the increased vulnerability of species caused by phenological responses driven by seasonal changes may lead to more dramatic consequences of ocean warming than previously anticipated, This work contributes to the Institut de Ciències del Mar "Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence" accreditation CEX2024-001494-S funded by AEI 10.13039/501100011033 of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, Peer reviewed

This dataset comprises baseline information on the distribution, demography, and population genetics of Mediterranean coralligenous assemblages. Records include taxa from the phyla Cnidaria, Porifera, and Bryozoa, as well as the class Ascidiacea (Tunicata, Chordata). Data were compiled within CorMedNet database, an open-access collaborative platform aimed at supporting research and conservation of Mediterranean coralligenous habitats. Through a literature review, the CorMedNet database currently compiled 8575 georeferenced records representing local populations of 418 species, providing the most comprehensive database on the coralligenous habitat to date, This research was funded by the following I+D+i projects: HEATMED project (RTI2018-095346-B-I00), funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by ERDF/EU, CORFUN project (TED2021-131622B-I00) funded by MICIU/A EI/10.13039/501100011033 and by European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR, UNDRESCORAL project (PID2022-137539OB-C21) funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and FEDER/UE, and MPA4Change (MED0200736) funded by Interreg EuroMED program. Contiene el conjunto de respuestas categorizadas para análisis topic modelling LDA, Aquatic animal welfare (AAW) is increasingly recognised as fundamental for sustainable aquaculture in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). This study aims to identify the main welfare challenges perceived by LAC stakeholders, including scientists, Competent National Authorities (CNA) staff, and industry professionals, through a three-day online workshop. Using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), responses across four welfare domains (nutrition, environment, health, and behaviour) and categories such as developmental stages, production systems, transport, slaughtering and species-specific issues, revealed that primary concerns included animal-based assessments, feeding strategies, and sanitary conditions. Notably, key issues across developmental stages included feed quality, stress, cannibalism, sanitation, and spawning behaviour. Challenges in production systems included water quality, stocking density, predator exposure, and facilities that promote natural behaviours. Additionally, the need to improve veterinary care capacity and to develop better behaviour assessment tools was recognised. Slaughter methods and transport emphasised capacity building to reduce stress and suffering, as well as protocol standardisation. Transversal species-specific welfare issues were recognised, particularly in nutrition, behaviour, and disease diagnosis. Overall, stakeholders in the LAC region acknowledge a gap in theoretical and practical capacity to address AAW issues. Recommendation priorities included nutrition, stress, water management, environmental impact, management, personnel training, and comprehensive guidance documents, This work was supported by the
