GPS tracking data during the breeding period 2024, This dataset contains high-resolution GPS tracking data from 27 breeding adult yellow-legged gulls (Larus michahellis) equipped with Ornitela GPS-GSM tracking devices in northeastern Spain during the 2024 breeding season (April–May 2024).Birds were captured and tagged at two breeding colonies: Barcelona (urban coastal colony; n = 14 individuals) and Ivars (inland colony at Ivars i Vila-sana lake; n = 13 individuals). The devices recorded spatial locations at regular intervals during the breeding period, allowing the characterization of movement patterns, habitat use, and foraging behaviour during incubation and chick-rearing stages. The dataset includes timestamped GPS positions along with associated metadata such as individual identifier, colony of origin, device information, and movement attributes derived from the tracking system. These data enable the study of urban versus agricultural movement ecology and habitat use, CEX2019-000928-S, Peer reviewed

ICHTHYOPLANKTON ABUNDANCE AT DIFFERENT LAYERS OF THE WATER COLUMN DURING CANOA SURVEY (NOVEMBER 2008) IN THE CENTRAL NORTH ATLANTIC [DATASET]

  • Olivar, M. Pilar
  • Sabatés, Ana
This dataset gives information on fish eggs and larval abundances at different layers of the water column in the Central North Atlantic in November 2008. This research explores the diel vertical distribution of fish early stages in relation to oceanographic features. It was observed that larvae of the majority of species showed shallower distributions during the day time and reached deeper layers at night. However, the vertical stratification and depth of the thermocline largely determined the overall distribution range, This research was funded by project "MEMORIA OCEáNICA DEL CLIMA: MECANISMOS Y RUTAS DE FORMACIóN DE AGUAS SUPERFICIALES EN EL ATLáNTICO ECUATORIAL". ABUNDANCE OF SARDINA PILCHARDUS EGGS AND LARVAE AT DIFFERENT LAYERS OF THE WATER COLUMN DURING THE INTER_B SURVEY (FEBRUARY 1997) IN THE SOUTHERN CATALAN COAST [DATASET]

  • Olivar, M. Pilar
  • Palomera, Isabel
his dataset gives information on sardine eggs and larval abundances at different layers of the water column in the southern Catalan coast in February 1997. This research was based on a Lagrangian experiment using stratified hauls to study the vertical distributions of Sardina pilchardus eggs and larvae at different times of day in the water parcel tracked by several hydrographic buoys. Sardine larvae exhibited greater dispersal through the water column at night than during the day (with a preference for levels below 30 m), This research was funded by project "Estudio interdisciplinario de mesoescala y su interacción con la circulación local, regional y global en el Mediterráneo occidental" (CICYT_AMB95-0901-CO2-01), Peer reviewed

ICHTHYOPLANKTON ABUNDANCE THROUGHOUT THE WATER COLUMN DURING MAS SURVEYS (JUNE AND NOVEMBER 2005) IN THE SOUTHERN CATALAN COAST (NW MEDITERRANEAN SEA) [DATASET]

  • Olivar, M. Pilar
This dataset presents information on fish eggs and larval abundances at different layers of the water column in two surveys carried out in June and November 2005 in the NW Mediterranean Sea. The vertical distributions of fish early stages of ca. 60 taxa was investigated. The larvae of the majority of shelf species that appeared in summer showed a very superficial vertical distribution, above the thermocline, the DFM and the maximum biomass of micro- and mesoplankton, and showed no signs of diel migrations along the water column. CTM2004-03510-C02-01/MAR, Peer reviewed

ABUNDANCE AND DAILY VERTICAL PATTERNS OF LARVAE AND TRANSFORMING STAGES OF OCEANIC FISH THROUGHOUT THE WATER COLUMN IN THE NORTHEAST ATLANTIC IN MAY-JUNE 2018 [DATASET]

  • Olivar, M. Pilar
  • Sarmiento Lezcano, Airam N.
  • López-Pérez, Cristina
This dataset gives information on the vertical distribution and abundance of early stages of meso and bathypelagic fishes throughout the daily cycle in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean. The larvae of the majority of species were found in the upper 100 m of the water column, both day and night. Transforming stages of myctophiforms and stomiiforms tend to be located at deeper depths during the day than at night. The most abundant specimens collected with the MOCNESS plankton net were the adults and juveniles of Cyclothone species, which do not show significant differences in vertical distributions between day and night, This research was funded by project "Biomasa y flujo activo en la zona batipelagica. This dataset includes the compositional information of n = 1778 geoarchaeological samples of green phosphate minerals sourced from three major Iberian deposits with evidence of prehistoric mining: Aliste, Terena, and the Gavà Mines. It has been used to develop a data-driven framework that integrates portable X-ray fluorescence (p-XRF) analysis and machine learning (ML), to determine the provenance of archaeological artifacts based on its elemental composition. In addition, a mineralogical analysis by X-ray diffraction (XRD) of a subset (N = 249; n_Aliste = 122, n_Terena = 47, n_Gavà = 80) was conducted to complement the geochemical characterisation of the sample. Data from n = 571 variscite beads from 15 Iberian and French archaeological sites, representing a diverse range of chrono-cultural contexts spanning from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age, used to test the model are also presented. The compositional data was obtained by using a portable XRF analyser and is presented as atomic percentages of the elements between Al and Th. Mineral compositions were determined using a Panalytical X'Pert Pro θ/θ diffractometer. This dataset has high reuse potential for future non-destructive studies of archaeological artefacts and past social network analyses., This work was financed by Portuguese funds through FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia in the framework of the project UID/00698: Centre for Archaeology.
