[Aim] This study aims to investigate the influence of fatigue and mood disturbances in Spanish long-COVID patients and to establish relationships between these factors and other clinical manifestations., [Method] A descriptive correlational study was conducted using a self-administered online questionnaire. The sample was obtained through non-random convenience sampling, comprising 374 participants from various regions of Spain. Data collection occurred between July 2, 2022, and November 30, 2022. The questionnaire collected demographic information and inquired about symptomatology as well as self-perception of health status. Validated scales, namely the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) and the Scale for Mood Assessment (EVEA), were utilized., [Results] The non-random sample consisted of 374 participants from diverse regions of Spain, of whom 79.9% were women. Over 70% of participants reported fatigue, while the EVEA revealed high scores in sadness-depression (4.94 ± 2.82) and anxiety (4.57 ± 2.88). Significant relationships were identified between fatigue and mood disturbances and neurological, psychological, locomotive, and pain symptoms., [Conclusions] Given the impact of the syndrome on psychological, social and economic spheres, regular monitoring of patients with long COVID is crucial. This study corroborates previous research findings and is notable for demonstrating the persistence of symptoms for over a year. Mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression, are closely related to physical symptoms, highlighting the need for holistic healthcare approaches., Peer reviewed

Four files containing information of metabolites of the wild-type (WT) plants and three hemoglobin mutants: glb1, glb2, and glb1/2. The files are named as follows: LNN metabolites.xls (data of leaves of non-nodulated plants), LN metabolites.xls (data of leaves of nodulated plants), R metabolites.xls (data of roots of non-nodulated plants), and N metabolites.xls (data of nodules). Each excel file contains eight columns with the analysis of primary metabolites. The columns correspond to: metabolite name, WT values, glb1 values, glb1/WT fold-change, glb2 values, glb2/WT fold-change, glb1/2 values, and glb1/2/WT fold-change., Seeds of Lotus japonicus ecotype Gifu B-129 were surface sterilized and seedlings were grown in pots for 7 weeks in a controlled environment chamber, with light intensity of 120-150 umol m-2 s-1, 16 h/8 h light/dark period, and 23ºC /21ºC temperature day/night regime. Non-nodulated plants were supplied with 5 mM ammonium nitrate. Nodulated plants were inoculated with Mesorhizobium loti MAFF303099 and supplied with 0.25 mM ammonium nitrate. Frozen material plant was pulverized in liquid nitrogen and metabolites were extracted following the protocol described by Lisec et al. 2006 (Nature Protocols 1, 387-396). Samples were derivatized with methoxyamine hydrochloride prior to GC-MS analysis. Data were analyzed using Thermo Scientific Xcalibur software. Retention times and mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) were taking into account to identify metabolites against the Golm Metabolome Database., Grant PID2020-113985GB-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, Peer reviewed

Four excel files, each containing three sheets. The excel files correspond to leaves of non-nodulated plants (LNN), leaves of nodulated plants (LN), roots of non-nodulated plants (R), and nodules (N). The sheets within each file correspond to the glb1, glb2, and glb1/glb2 mutants. Non-nodulated plants (L. japonicus ecotype Gifu) were grown on 5 mM ammonium nitrate. Nodulated plants (L. japonicus ecotype Gifu) were inoculated with Mesorhizobium loti strain MAFF303099 and grown on 0.25 mM ammonium nitrate. All plant material was harvested when plants were 7 weeks old. The proteins listed are only those showing a relative abundance WT higher than 2-fold or lower than 0.5-fold and with Student's t-test significance P<0.05. This dataset is covered by a Creative Commons Licence Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)., This dataset includes the proteomics analyses of three mutants of the model legume Lotus japonicus. The mutants are knock-outs of hemoglobin 1-1 (glb1), hemoglobin 2 -1 (glb2), and the double mutant glb1/glb2. The mutants were initially obtained from the LORE1 collection (Aarhus University, Denmark). The proteomics data of the mutants are expressed with respect to the values of the wild-type plants., Grant PID2020-113985GB-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, Peer reviewed

A 1974 AGRONOMIC REPORT ON SALINITY IN BARDENAS, SPAIN, PLUS SOME OUTREACH BROCHURES [DATASET]

  • Herrero Isern, Juan
  • Lorenzo-González, M. A.
Bardenas is the name of an area of semi-arid land extending over conterminous parts of the regions of Aragon and Navarre in the Ebro Valley, northern Spain. Nowadays, large areas of Bardenas are irrigated. In the 1950’s the Spanish Government installed peasant families in the newly irrigated lands, but salinity problems became apparent threatening the economy of the area. Two outreach publications (García-Menéndez, 1957; Puig, 1960) included here show the social concerns about salinity in Bardenas and its perception at that time. Years later, the engineer in charge of the biggest irrigation project in the Ebro Valley still emphasized the challenges posed by soil salinity (De los Ríos, 1966, 1986). Also, a seasoned Agricultural engineer stressed the feasibility of irrigating saline and gypseous lands (Jordana, 1989). In the same way, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture launched studies and field experiments on soil salinity managed through its IRYDA agency. We provide the link (https://dara.aragon.es/opac/app/results/ahpz?q=A/025621/0001&ob=re:1) to a report based on soil and water samples taken between April 1972 and March 1974. We have georeferenced the five plans of the report, which are included here as .tif files. We also present “Shapefiles Bardenas” folder with the three files for (i) the study area, (ii) the observations localization, and (iii) the soil profiles. Moreover, the file “Maps Bardenas Process.docx” explains how we elaborated the maps from the folded plans included in the report of IRYDA. Three xlsx files show the analytical data of soils, phreatic waters, and irrigation waters, respectively. To our knowledge, the report is one of the earlier ꟷif not the earliestꟷ dedicated to the saline soils of Bardenas using methods of soil description, analysis and classification that allow the easy comparison of the information gathered with other successive pedological and agricultural studies. Its data provide a basis for the evaluation of desalination techniques and other agricultural practices carried out in the fields of Bardenas whose irrigation began 60 years ago., Gobierno de Aragón; Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas; PID2021-127170OB-100 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by “ERDF A way of making Europe”, and the grant TED2021-130303B-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by the “European Union NextGeneration EU/PRTR”., Peer reviewed
