Many complex networked systems exhibit volatile dynamic interactions among their vertices, whose order and persistence reverberate on the outcome of dynamical processes taking place on them. To quantify and characterize the similarity of the snapshots of a time-varying network—a proxy for the persistence,—we present a study on the persistence of the interactions based on a descriptor named temporality. We use the average value of the temporality, T , to assess how “special” is a given timevarying network within the confguration space of ordered sequences of snapshots. We analyse the temporality of several empirical networks and fnd that empirical sequences are much more similar than their randomized counterparts. We study also the efects on T induced by the (time) resolution at which interactions take place.

En este artículo partimos de la circulación internacional de los conceptos y la teoría elaborada por Pierre Bourdieu para ahondar, desde una perspectiva literaria, en la noción de autonomía dadas las objeciones y retos que se han detectado para movilizar este concepto en el estudio de campos literarios periféricos. Proponemos que en un número relevante de contextos históricos y/o geográficos el elemento heterónomo, ya sea político o económico, permea de un modo determinante el funcionamiento del campo literario. Como ilustramos a partir de algunos ejemplos de los casos soviético y latinoamericanos, esta realidad plantea la necesidad de refinar las categorías utilizadas para pensar el campo literario y las relaciones con otros campos sociales de actividad, con otros campos literarios nacionales y entre escalas. Para ello, ahondamos en algunas propuestas recientes de (re)definición de nociones clave de la teoría de campos y proponemos un uso más flexible de la teoría de Bourdieu, que facilite su aplicación a contextos geográficos dispares y a nuevas escalas de análisis, y avanzar así en la modelización de la variación de campos., This paper draws from the international circulation of the concepts and theory developed by Pierre Bourdieu to reexamine, from a literary perspective, the notion of autonomy, given the multiple objections and challenges that appear when approaching peripheral literary fields. We argue that in a significant variety of historical and geographical contexts, the heteronomous factor, be it political or economic, permeates the functioning of the literary field in a decisive way. As illustrated through some examples from Soviet and Latin American literature, there is a need to refine the categories used to think the literary field and its relations to other fields of activity, other national literary fields and different scales. To that end, we delve into some recent proposals formulated to (re)define the key notions of field theory. From here, we hint at more flexible uses of the theory that would allow its application to different geographical contexts and new scales of analysis in order to develop the modelization of field variation.

The International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation (IIIC) was an international organisation established post-World War I, aimed to foster intellectual relations for global peace. As this institution becomes centenary, the digitisation of archival records has democratised access, sparking renewed scholar interest and eventually enabling new research avenues. Here, we examine two letter collections from IIIC’s digitised funds, focusing on administrative and artistic/literary matters. By analysing recognisable sender-receiver pairs and their geographical origins, we construct networks revealing intricate international relationships. Notably, the community structures and roles differ between administrative and literary exchanges, suggesting distinct communication dynamics. Administrative matters depict a more egalitarian distribution. In contrast, relevant literary correspondents include Western European countries exclusively, reflecting the prominence of certain geocultural areas as well as potential geopolitical influence attempts, challenging the established historical narratives on centres and peripheries, inviting a revaluation of the IIIC’s geographical organisation and intellectual cooperation during the interwar period., DRS, ECC, AC and RRC acknowledge the support of the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (project MapModern, Grant agreement No. 803860, PI DRS). Using machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) techniques, we have parsed scanned documents and extracted from them meta-information like: people and location mentions, language (e.g., French), typology of the explored material (e.g., letter vs. attached document), material medium (e.g., handwritten vs. typewritten), and -- if possible -- its year of drafting. Moreover, we have associated these entities (e.g., a given person) and information to the specific document(s) where they appear. We have divided the dataset in three files: one focused on people and two on locations (one for countries and another for cities). What was the relationship of Latin American intellectuals with Europe during the interwar period? What were their ideas on intellectual internationalization? How was Latin America perceived by European and Latin American intellectuals?, We aim to approach these questions from the perspective of the founding and activity of the Argentine National Committee on Intellectual Cooperation, as part of the International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation (IICI), which operated in Paris between 1925 and 1946. We will examine the profiles of the most prominent actors involved in the Committee, focusing mainly on the work of Argentine representatives Enrique Gómez Carrillo, delegate at the Argentine Legation from 1926 to 1927, and Antonio Aita, secretary of the Argentine National Committee from 1936 to 1940. We review their positions on the concepts of “intellectual cooperation”, “internationalism”, and “Americanism”, 2 as well as their relationship with national and foreign literature, based on an analysis of documents from the IICI archives kept at the UNESCO library in Paris., This chapter is part of the R&D project “Mapping Hispanic Modernity. This article proposes the term Big Translation History (BTH) to describe a translation history that can be analysed computationally and that we define as involving: (1) large-scale research (geographical and chronological); (2) massive data understood as big data, accompanied by little data, and drawing on a wide range of often heterogeneous and non-structured sources; and (3) the use of computational techniques as part of the research process, and for the production of knowledge, rather than helping only with visualisation of data. We advance the hypothesis that one of the main possibilities of BTH, as a conceptual framework and a methodology, is to help decentralize translation history and literary and cultural history, in a broad sense. [EN] Drawing from big translation history (BTH), which uses digital-humanities tools for the study of translation history from a transnational, relational, and large-scale perspective, this article develops a metahistoriographic reflection upon the ways translation history can be rebuilt in the Spanish-speaking space, using computational tools. To this end, I review how the subfield of translation history has been constituted in Latin America and Spain, and I conclude by pointing toward the contributions that big translation history can make to the future development of translation history in a region that is framed in the so-called Global South.
