DIGITAL.CSIC. Repositorio Institucional del CSIC
- Toribio Pérez, Pablo
[EN] This article describes a new manuscript of Martin Seidel’s "Origo et fundamenta religionis christianae", which is held in Nuremberg (Landeskirchliches Archiv der Evangelisch-Lutherischen Kirche in Bayern, S2/ Fen. III 8, 114), and which serves as the model for the copy currently held in Hamburg (Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek, cod. theol. 1851). The latter text is the basis for the recent edition of Socas and Toribio (2017). The Nuremberg manuscript displays a number of features that clearly suggest authorial intervention, together with other features that relate it to Seidel’s well-attested proselytizing activities, [ES] Este trabajo presenta un nuevo manuscrito del tratado Origo et fundamenta religionis christianae de Martin Seidel, conservado en Núremberg (Landeskirchliches Archiv der Evangelisch-Lutherischen Kirche in Bayern, S2/ Fen. III 8, 114).

Benedykt Wiszowaty’s Medulla historiae ecclesiasticae: Critical Edition of a Late Socinian Account of Church History
DIGITAL.CSIC. Repositorio Institucional del CSIC
- Toribio Pérez, Pablo
An elusive figure of late Socinianism, Benedykt Wiszowaty (ca. 1660–after 1704) was the great grandson of Fausto Sozzini. He was educated in Amsterdam, where he was responsible for several publications that ensured the Western European reception of Socinianism after its proscription from Poland, including Christoph Sand’s (1644–1680) Bibliotheca Anti-Trinitariorum (1684). With his Medulla historiae ecclesiasticae (ca. 1685), Wiszowaty accomplished "probably the last serious work to come from the Polish Socinians, one which winds up their contribution for good and is in a sense their parting shot" (Lech Szczucki). Rooted in sixteenth-century Protestant apologetic traditions and much indebted to contemporary schorlarship from different confessions, the Medulla aims to identify traces of Socinian Christology in every period of Christian history. Pablo Toribio publishes this Latin treatise for the first time, providing a critical edition based on all known manuscripts (held today in Budapest, Cluj-Napoca and Hamburg). The edition is introduced by a philological discussion of the text and an account of Wiszowaty’s life and intellectual profile., Peer reviewed

El Nuevo Testamento latino en Martin Seidel, Origo et fundamenta religionis Christianae
DIGITAL.CSIC. Repositorio Institucional del CSIC
- Toribio Pérez, Pablo
Scholarship on Martin Seidel’s Origo et fundamenta religionis Christianae (c.1590) has stressed its ‘proto-deistic’ character as well as its role in the prehistory of the research on the historical Jesus. But Seidel’s skills as biblical philologist and translator, which surface in his abundant Latin quotations from the Bible, also deserve attention. A preliminary analysis, based on his translation of Isaiah 52–53, has suggested Seidel’s engagement with the Antwerp Polyglot and his probable knowledge of other sixteenth-century Latin translations of the Bible. This paper aims at verifying and qualifying these preliminary results by extending the analysis to Seidel’s quotations from the New Testament., El presente trabajo se enmarca en el proyecto Biblia latina e historiografía eclesiástica: edición y

Prólogos a Biblias latinas del siglo XVI
DIGITAL.CSIC.
