FUNCTIONALIZATION OF PLASMA ELECTROLYTIC OXIDATION/SOL–GEL COATINGS ON AZ31 WITH ORGANIC CORROSION INHIBITORS

  • Mohedano Sánchez, Marta
In this investigation, the sol–gel method is employed along with a corrosion inhibitor to seal a plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coating, aiming to improve the long-term corrosion resistance of the AZ31 Mg alloy. Following an initial screening of corrosion inhibitors, 8-hydroxyquinoline (8HQ) is incorporated into the hybrid PEO/sol–gel system using two methods: (i) post-treatment of the PEO layer through immersion in an inhibitor-containing solution; (ii) loading the inhibitor into the sol–gel precursor. The characterization includes scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), and water drop contact angle measurements. The rheological properties of the inhibitor-loaded sol–gel precursors are assessed by measuring flow curves. The corrosion processes are evaluated in a saline solution through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and immersion tests with unscratched and scratched specimens, respectively. The results demonstrate the successful incorporation of the inhibitor for both loading strategies. Regardless of the loading approach, systems containing 8HQ exhibit the most favourable long-term corrosion resistance.

OSTEOARTRITIS EN PERROS DE LIVERPOOL (LOAD)

LIVERPOOL OSTEOARTHRITIS IN DOGS (LOAD)

  • Álvarez Gómez De Segura, Ignacio
  • Olcoz, María
  • Cabezas, Miguel Ángel
Assessing chronic pain in dogs has been greatly favoured by the development of Owner-Reported Outcome Measures. Among them, the Liverpool Osteoarthritis in Dogs (LOAD) has been widely used for this purpose. Most of these tools have been written in English and its use by non-English natives requires not only translation but also linguistic validation for use by veterinarians and owners. For its use, the LOAD has not undergone translation into Spanish and the objective was to generate a linguistically validated Spanish translation of the LOAD. Following the World Health Organization and the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research published guidelines, the original LOAD English version underwent analysis and translation by two native linguists proficient in the target language. Both translations were then reviewed by a third native linguist to identify potential disparities and establish a cohesive translation (reconciliation). Subsequently, an independent linguist, fluent in both English and the target language, conducted the back-translation. Finally, the research team compared the original and back-translated versions to pinpoint and resolve any significant differences. Following the creation of the translated version, a cognitive debriefing was conducted to assess the questionnaire within the target population. A total of 89 surveys were distributed to dog owners of varying ages, genders, and socio-economic backgrounds. Although there were some suggestions and comments, and some adjustments were made, all respondents found the survey to be clear, achieving a linguistic validation of the Spanish LOAD.

SQUWALS: A SZEGEDY QUANTUM WALKS SIMULATOR

  • Ortega, Sergio A.
  • Martín-Delgado Alcántara, Miguel Ángel
Szegedy's quantum walk is an algorithm for quantizing a general Markov chain. It has plenty of applications such as many variants of optimizations. In order to check its properties in an error-free environment, it is important to have a classical simulator. However, the current simulation algorithms require a great deal of memory due to the particular formulation of this quantum walk. In this paper we propose a memory-saving algorithm that scales as (N2) with the size N of the graph. We provide additional procedures for simulating Szegedy's quantum walk over mixed states and also the Semiclassical Szegedy walk. With these techniques we have built a classical simulator in Python called SQUWALS. We show that our simulator scales as (N2) in both time and memory resources. This package provides some high-level applications for algorithms based on Szegedy's quantum walk, as for example the quantum PageRank.
