Mauerer, I. & Tutz, G. (2023). "Replication Data for: Vote Choices and Valence: Intercepts and Alternate Specifications", Harvard Dataverse, V1. https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/SKWTGS, Valence is a crucial concept in studying spatial voting and party competition. The widely adopted approach is to rely on intercepts of vote choice models and to infer, based on their size and direction, how valence affects party strategies in empirical settings. The approach suffers from fundamental statistical flaws. This contribution provides the statistical fundamentals to advance the empirical modeling of valence. It proposes an appropriate modeling approach to interpret intercepts as valences and alternate specifications to parametrize the effects of valence., EMERGIA, Junta de Andalucia

Is supplement to: Mauerer, I. & Tutz, G. (2025). "An Ordinal Item Response Model for Understanding Attitudes". Forthcoming Sociological Methods and Research. doi: 10.1177/00491241251403078 Open Access, We present an item response model for ordinal public opinion data to understand individual-level variation in attitudes as a function of covariates. The approach allows investigating how individuals (or population subgroups) differ in substantive stances and attitude strength. It is a two-dimensional partial credit model that incorporates covariates linked to attitude direction and strength into the basic model. We exemplify the types of substantive insights into heterogeneity that can be obtained from the approach but not from existing models with two applications: attitudes toward gender equality (European Values Study) and the evaluation of presidential candidates (American National Election Study)., Program EMERGIA (EMC21-00256), Junta de Andalucía

Background: Adolescents are the most vulnerable population for problematic smartphone use (PSU). The scientific literature provides evidence that factors such as fear of missing out (FoMO) and emotional intelligence (EI) can be related to problematic internet behaviours, but few studies have been conducted on PSU in adolescents. This study aimed to examine how FoMO and EI might explain PSU in adolescents. Methods: The sample consisted of 537 students (12–17 years old) who completed scales assessing problematic smartphone use, fear of missing out, and emotional intelligence. Results: The results showed in both cases moderate, significant and positive correlations between PSU and FoMO, while significant and negative correlations between PSU and EI were observed. In addition, high FoMO and deficits in EI were found to explain part of the variance in PSU. Conclusions: The results are discussed based on the Theory of compensatory internet use. The need to address EI and FoMO in educational contexts is also justified., Parte del proyecto I+D+i PID2020-117006RB-I00, financiado por MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, Grupo de investigación Applied Positive Lab CTS-1048G-FEDER (Junta de Andalucía), Universidad de Málaga (M. DATASET_EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE_INTERVENTION IN CYBERBULLYING_TEACHER.
- Fernández-Delgado, Claudia

DATASET FOR: ALL RESOURCES LEAD TO ROME: A MULTI-STUDY INVESTIGATION ON THE COMPLEMENTARY ASSOCIATION OF CORE SELF-EVALUATIONS AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ON WELL-BEING
- Mérida-López, Sergio
- Pekaar, Keri A.
- Luque-Reca, Octavio
- Extremera-Pacheco, Natalio
This multi-study investigation examined what magnitude of personal resources people need to flourish in their personal life and at work. We specifically looked at the interplay between emotional intelligence (EI) and core self-evaluations (CSE) in relation to flourishing, happiness, and work engagement. Guided by job demands-resources theory, this investigation was conducted through two separate studies (Ns1 = 391; Ns2 = 703) using path analysis with Spanish employees. Study 1 revealed that EI moderated the positive relationship between CSE and flourishing and work engagement so that this relationship was weaker among employees high (vs. low) in EI. Study 2 replicated this pattern for the relationships with happiness and work engagement. Facet-level analyses revealed that use of emotions was driving the moderation on flourishing in Study 1, whereas other-emotion appraisal was driving the moderation on work engagement in Study 2. Overall, these findings suggest that individuals low in CSE might benefit from higher levels of EI to enhance their flourishing. Implications for improving well-being through the development of personal resources are discussed., Parte del proyecto I+D+i PID2020-117006RB-I00, financiado por MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, Grupo de investigación Applied Positive Lab CTS-1048G-FEDER (Junta de Andalucía), Junta de Andalucía, Proyectos FEDER (UMA18-FEDERJA-147)

DATASET_ CYBERVICTIMIZATION_GRATITUDE_LIFE_SATISFACTION_SUICIDAL_IDEATION
- Chamizo-Nieto, María Teresa
- Rey-Peña, Lourdes
Previous research reports that cybervictims are more likely to experience suicidal ideations. Gratitude and life satisfaction have shown to predict suicide risk, but they have rarely been explored in the cyberbullying context. Hence, this study examined the roles of gratitude and life satisfaction in suicide risk in cyberbullying situations. An initial sample of 858 adolescents participated in a prospective study, completing questionnaires assessing gratitude, life satisfaction, cyberbullying experiences and suicidal ideation. Results showed that low levels of gratitude and life satisfaction influence suicidal ideation in cybervictimized adolescents. Limitations and implications of this study are discussed., Parte del proyecto I+D+i PID2020-117006RB-I00, financiado por MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, Parte del proyecto UMA 18-FEDERJA-147 financiado por Junta de Andalucía/Fondos FEDER, Grupo de investigación Applied Positive Lab CTS-1048G-FEDER (Junta de Andalucía)
