This multi-study investigation examined what magnitude of personal resources people need to flourish in their personal life and at work. We specifically looked at the interplay between emotional intelligence (EI) and core self-evaluations (CSE) in relation to flourishing, happiness, and work engagement. Guided by job demands-resources theory, this investigation was conducted through two separate studies (Ns1 = 391; Ns2 = 703) using path analysis with Spanish employees. Study 1 revealed that EI moderated the positive relationship between CSE and flourishing and work engagement so that this relationship was weaker among employees high (vs. low) in EI. Study 2 replicated this pattern for the relationships with happiness and work engagement. Facet-level analyses revealed that use of emotions was driving the moderation on flourishing in Study 1, whereas other-emotion appraisal was driving the moderation on work engagement in Study 2. Overall, these findings suggest that individuals low in CSE might benefit from higher levels of EI to enhance their flourishing. Implications for improving well-being through the development of personal resources are discussed., Parte del proyecto I+D+i PID2020-117006RB-I00, financiado por MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, Grupo de investigación Applied Positive Lab CTS-1048G-FEDER (Junta de Andalucía), Junta de Andalucía, Proyectos FEDER (UMA18-FEDERJA-147)

Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is among the most prevalent mental illnesses, and due to the low efficacy of the current medication, it is essential to find new biological targets that could modulate alcohol consumption. Since Galanin (1− 15) [GAL(1− 15)] produces a loss of motivational behaviour by an artificial reinforcer and decreases the preference an alcohol consumption in a voluntary alcohol intake, we have studied the role of GAL(1− 15) in alcohol-seekingbehaviourandtheinvolvementofthecorticomesolimbicsystemaswellastheroleofGAL(1− 15) in context-induced alcohol relapse. In rats, we have studied GAL(1− 15)-effects on alcohol-seeking in self- administration, in fixed-ratio (FR1) and progressive-ratio (PR), and the involvement of GAL receptors using siRNA GALR1 or GALR2 knockdown animals. We have analysed the transcriptional changes of C-Fos, dopamine receptors, GAL receptors and 5HT1A receptors in the corticomesolimbic system. Also, we have examined the effect of GAL(1− 15) in context-induced alcohol relapse. GAL(1− 15) substantially reduced alcohol-seeking behaviour in the operant self-administration model in an FR1 protocol and at the breaking point in a PR schedule. GALR1and GALR2 were involved in these effects, as indicated by the analysis by GALR2 antagonist and GALR1 and GALR2 knockdown animals. Notably, the mechanism of GAL(1− 15)-mediated actions involved changes in C-Fos, Dopamine receptors and 5HT1A expression in the ventral tegmental area, accumbens nucleus and prefrontal cortex. Significantly, GAL(1− 15) reduced the context-induced alcohol relapse. These results open up the possibility to use GAL(1− 15) as a novel strategy in AUD., This work was supported by grants awarded by Spanish Ministry of Economy PID2020-114392RB-100, PDC2021-121566-100 and by Junta de Andalucía P20-00026-R and PI-0083-2019

DATASET_CT_STRESS_PSU_ENGAGEMENT
- Arrivillaga, Christiane
- Rey-Peña, Lourdes
- Extremera-Pacheco, Natalio
Because problematic smartphone use (PSU) is rising among adolescents, it is vital to analyze the potential causes and psychosocial consequences affecting this target population. Current theoretical frameworks suggest that specific personal core characteristics might predispose individuals to experience increases in this problematic behavior over time. Additionally, PSU has been conceptualized as a maladaptive coping mechanism to manage negative emotions. The present study aimed at analyzing a personal resource, critical thinking disposition, and a potential negative consequence, reduced academic engagement, and the underlying role of perceived stress and PSU in this association among Spanish adolescents. The sample consisted of 688 adolescents (54% females, 46% males) aged 12 to 18 years from Southern Spain. Participants completed self-report questionnaires to assess critical thinking disposition (VIA-Youth), perceived stress (Perceived Stress Scale), PSU (Smartphone Addiction Scale- Short Version), and academic engagement (Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-Students). We analyzed a serial mediation model using PROCESS (SPSS), in which critical thinking disposition was the independent variable, perceived stress and PSU were the first and second mediators, respectively, and academic engagement was the outcome variable. Our results indicated that lower critical thinking disposition was linked to increased perceived stress, which was associated with higher PSU, resulting in decreased academic engagement. These findings provide empirical support for the pathways model of PSU, the maladaptive coping theories, and the I-PACE model of behavioral addictions. Furthermore, we discuss our results highlighting the important implication of training adolescents to think critically regarding their smartphone usage to reduce their stress levels, to avoid using smartphones as a coping strategy, and hence, to improve their student's attitudes toward school., Universidad de Málaga (PPIT.UMA.A2.2019)

DATASET_ CYBERVICTIMIZATION_GRATITUDE_LIFE_SATISFACTION_SUICIDAL_IDEATION
- Chamizo-Nieto, María Teresa
- Rey-Peña, Lourdes
Previous research reports that cybervictims are more likely to experience suicidal ideations. Gratitude and life satisfaction have shown to predict suicide risk, but they have rarely been explored in the cyberbullying context. Hence, this study examined the roles of gratitude and life satisfaction in suicide risk in cyberbullying situations. An initial sample of 858 adolescents participated in a prospective study, completing questionnaires assessing gratitude, life satisfaction, cyberbullying experiences and suicidal ideation. Results showed that low levels of gratitude and life satisfaction influence suicidal ideation in cybervictimized adolescents. Limitations and implications of this study are discussed., Parte del proyecto I+D+i PID2020-117006RB-I00, financiado por MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, Parte del proyecto UMA 18-FEDERJA-147 financiado por Junta de Andalucía/Fondos FEDER, Grupo de investigación Applied Positive Lab CTS-1048G-FEDER (Junta de Andalucía)

Is Supplement To: Mauerer, I., Puy, M. S. & Urzay-Gómez, S. (2025). "Explaining Preferences for EU Integration: Theory and Empirical Evidence". European Economic Review 176.doi: 10.1016/j.euroecorev.2025.105038, We present and empirically test a model that explains how European citizens form their preferences for integration, which is crucial for understanding the public support for EU advancement. The model incorporates varying levels of information and awareness of how EU legislation impacts national politics as well as economic considerations. The empirical results indicate that European citizens tend to be aware of the interplay between EU laws and national legislation. We reach this conclusion by showing that further EU integration is supported by citizens who believe EU legislation amends their national policies. By contrast, Euroscepticism emerges among citizens who perceive the EU as interfering in their domestic politics. Our theory and empirical evidence suggest that citizens see EU legislation as correcting or undermining national politics, contrasting with other theories that directly link support for integration and Euroscepticism to left- and right-wing ideological orientations.
