Biofilm development is recognized as a major virulence factor underlying most chronic bacterial infections. When a biofilm community is established, planktonic cells growing in the surroundings of a tissue switch to a sessile lifestyle and start producing a biofilm matrix. The initial steps of in vivo biofilm development are poorly characterized and difficult to assess experimentally. A great amount of in vitro evidence has shown that accumulation of high levels of cyclic dinucleotides (c-di-..., J. The precise understanding of the biology of a living cell requires the identification and quantification of the molecular components necessary to sustain life. One such element is RNA. Two independent high-throughput strategies are available to identify the entire collection of RNA molecules produced by a cell population, which is currently known as the transcriptome. One technique relies on microarray technology (tiling arrays), whereas the second one relies on sequencing the RNA pool (RNA-seq...

We demonstrate a novel concept for Brillouin optical time domain analysis sensors that is based on synthesizing a virtual Brillouin frequency shift profile along the sensing fiber. The technique is based on modulating the wavelength of the optical source with a periodic waveform that is synchronized to the pump pulse. Application of this new tool to the compensation of non local effects and Brillouin induced noise in distributed sensors is experimentally demonstrated., The authors wish to acknowledge the financial support from the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación through the

In this work, a comparative analysis of two iron bullets found in The Royal Ammunition Factory of Eugi in Navarra (Spain) was performed. Both bullets presented a spherical shape with a relatively good state of preservation, belonging to the last years of the factory production (1766-1850). Several techniques such as microhardness, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), light (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical mission spectroscopy (OES) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX)...

Posteriormente, las técnicas..., In this thesis, the theoretical foundations and the formulation of the Coupled-Mode Theory for the electromagnetic analysis and modeling of non-uniform waveguides are employed to develop different techniques for the synthesis of microwave and millimeter wave devices that are completely automatic and independent from the physical technology of implementation.

de los parámetros de la intergeneracionalidad, la independencia activa, y un presupuesto..., Ecuador has advanced legislation with which old age and elderly are reconceptualized as Older adults. Thus, Ecuador works with the term "Adulto mayor" as an
active citizen. All of this within a comprehensive Life Cycle (Intergenerationality),
which also includes gender mainstreaming, empowerment and plurality. In addition,
Ecuador has a decentralized the administration of territory, which assists the elderly
population as a priority care group, ensuring this policy participation....

We present, for the first time, an experimental demonstration of RIN noise transfer dampening at low frequencies in random distributed feedback ultralong Raman fibre lasers based on conventional telecommunication fibres. Furthermore, we present a thorough theoretical description of the phenomenon and demonstrate how our model can be used to predict the observed behaviour, identifying the general requirements for system improvement through RIN transfer reduction., Comunidad de Madrid (AEI/FEDER funds TALENTO-CM 2017-T2/TIC-5227, SINFOTON2-CM (S2018-NMT/4326)); Horizon 2020 Framework Programme (Marie Sklodowska-Curie—748839); LAPHIA (Lasers and Photonics in Aquitaine); Conseil Régional d’Aquitaine (2017-1R50302-00013493); Universidad de Alcalá (CCG19/IA-051); Spanish Government (PID2019-107270RBC22, RTI2018-RTI2018-097957-B-C33).
On the modeling of the concept: “The Contents of the Empty Set" using the activity orderings family (⊑w)w∈L in a distributive lattice ( L, ≤ ). An interpretation of those order relations ⊑w as alternative inclusions (“w-Inclusions") and of its associated inf- operators ⨅w as additional intersections (“w-Intersections”), both in the Intuitive set theory and in the L-fuzzy set theory. A mathematical model is presented to define new inclusions, intersections and unions as alternatives to the usual ones between crisp and fuzzy subsets. In particular, the concept of “the non-trivial content of the empty set ∅” is analyzed.
This proposed model is based on the interconnection of two consolidated mathematical concepts in specialized literature:
One, (which belongs to the field of image processing using Mathematical Morphology techniques), is that of order of activity and that we...
